Speak My Vibe is a privacy-first browser extension designed to help you explain and translate complex text selections on webpages in custom writing styles. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

What Data We Collect & Process

• Webpage Text Selections: When you highlight text on a webpage, the extension reads that selection so it can show it in the side panel and explain it on request. It reads the selection from the page you are viewing, including text you highlight inside frames embedded in that page. Nothing else on the page is read, and this text is processed entirely locally on your device using Google Chrome's built-in AI model (Gemini Nano).
• Custom Instructions: If you enter a custom style instruction (e.g. "Explain like a pirate"), this instruction is stored locally in your browser to pre-fill the form next time you use the extension.
• No Personal Data Collection: This extension does not collect, record, or track any personally identifiable information (PII), browsing history, network activity, or device details.

How Data Is Stored

• Local Storage Only: Your custom instruction text is saved locally using the chrome.storage.local API. This data remains on your physical device. It is never synced to the cloud, nor is it transmitted to any external servers.
• No Remote Transmission: No webpage text, prompt input, or AI-generated output is transmitted off your device.

Third-Party Services

• This extension does not use any external APIs, third-party analytics trackers, or remote advertising networks.
• All AI processing is performed locally using the Chrome browser's built-in ai.languageModel or ai.summarizer engine.

Data Retention and Deletion

• Your local settings (custom prompt instruction) remain in your browser until you clear the extension data or uninstall the extension.
• Uninstalling the extension automatically removes all associated local storage data immediately.

Permissions and Why They Are Needed

• Read and change data on the sites you visit (host access): Required to read the text you highlight on whichever page you are reading. The extension only ever reads the current selection; it does not read, log, or transmit page content, browsing history, or form data.
• scripting: Runs a small function in the page to return the highlighted text when the side panel opens or when you click "Explain Selection".
• sidePanel: Displays the extension's interface in Chrome's side panel so it stays open while you read and highlight.
• storage: Saves your own settings (custom style instruction, auto-play preference, voice and speed) locally on your device.
• tts: Reads explanations aloud using the text-to-speech voices already installed on your system.
